Run For Your Lives Zombie 5K – The Race

Written by . Filed under Events. Tagged , , . No comments.

About five thousand people dashed along the five km (three mile) course of the survival-themed race in Laguna Province, about 38 km south of Manila, dodging an assortment of the walking undead in the contest based on a popular U.S. race.

Two hundred actors dressed as post-apocalyptic zombies hid behind trees, bushes and rocky uphill climbs along the five km (three mile) course to surprise the unsuspecting runners and symbolically feast on their brains by stealing flags attached to the runners’ waists.

From the 1950s onwards girls were encouraged to hone their zombie slaughtering skills in preparation for the inevitable apocalypse. Though young ladies dispose of the undead with ease today, toys such as Mattel’s 1962 ‘Zombie Attack Barbie’ were instrumental in helping to habituate girls to a new social norm where zombie disposal would become a very necessary life skill.

Now a collectors item ‘Zombie Attack Barbie’ played a salient role in ensuring the survival of countless young girls who grew up ready and willing to slaughter the zombie menace. This much loved toy still holds fond memories for so many of the lovely ladies from our Zombie Clearance Squads today.

Zombies needed – undead end job recruitment drive launched by experience day website

With mass unemployment, you may be sick to death of job-hunting. If this sounds like you, this job might be right up your street.

Experience day website wish.co.uk is recruiting zombies for this Zombie Manor House experience in Warrington, just outside Manchester, in live auditions taking place at Pineapple Dance Studios this month.

You may remember seeing the zombie shopping mall experience from wish.co.uk, also, who can count celebrities Simon Pegg, Jamie Oliver and Derren Brown as fans.

The job ad itself is being hosted here by monster.co.uk and opens with the line ‘Tired of moaning about your job? How about a job where moaning is a distinct advantage!’

Richard Kershaw, co-founder of Wish.co.uk, said:

“Hundreds of zombie fans from around the world have contacted us begging for work. Given the huge demand for our Zombie Manor House, we’re inviting these people to audition in front of our expert panel to see if they have the right stuff – why settle for a dead end job, when you can apply for an undead end job instead?”

Applicants from the country over are invited to live auditions at Covent Garden’s Pineapple Dance Studios on Thursday 28th June between 2.30-5.30pm. They will be expected to showcase their zombie talents in front of a panel of judges. Entrants should come dressed to impress, though zombie make-up artists will be on-hand for last-minute touch-ups.

This zombie manor house trailer shows what successful applicants can expect to be doing as part of their working day:

There is an amusement park in Japan called Fuji-Q Highland that boasts to have the world’s longest and scariest house of horror. It’s a 900-meter-long zombie-infested labyrinth called Saiky? Senritsu Meiky?, or “Ultimate Horror Maze”.

During a staged press conference, park organisers announced that since the zombies had lost their edge they had shut the park temporarily in order to take time out to train up the zombies to be more scary.

Here’s a video showing the zombies in training:

Fly parasite turns honey bees into zombies

Written by . Filed under Science. Tagged , , , , . No comments.

American scientists have discovered that a fly parasite can turn honey bees into confused zombies before killing them, in an advance that could offer new clues to why bee colonies are collapsing.

The honey bees become disoriented after the parasite lays its eggs in its abdomen.
The honey bees abandon their hives in a “flight of the living dead.”
The flies had been determined earlier to parasitize bumble bes.

The Zombie Apocalypse May Actually Be Upon Us

Is it time? Has the zombie apocalypse really come?

By now we’ve all seen the awful, awful story about the Florida man who was shot to death by police for refusing to stop chewing on another man’s face.

We joked around about it being the canary in the mine shaft of an impending zombie apocalypse. But as Tumblr blogger “I Hope Rick Santorum” helpfully points out in an appropriately viral post, this latest incident is not so much a warning shot as it is another in a disconcertingly intensifying stream of zombie-invoking headlines — all from the past two weeks, and all from the Sunshine State.

There have been some prankers who aren’t taking things too seriously. We say to them, best stick to impersonating a zombie because when the time comes, they’ll be the first to get bitten.

What it’s like to be in a zombie invasion

Oh man, this is awesome! MSN’s James Draven investigates what it’s like to take part in the “UK’s ultimate survival-horror experience.” He went to an event where a condemned shopping centre in Reading is apparently taken over by zombies and the participants have to defend themselves from the oncoming horde!

For the last 10 minutes I’ve been lost and alone in near complete darkness, wandering the labyrinthine corridors and store rooms of an abandoned shopping centre’s basement. I’m on a resupply mission having run out of ammunition; my empty shotgun hangs useless by my side. The pen-sized torch in my left hand offers little illumination through doorways to pitch black rooms, instead lighting up the insane ramblings scrawled across the corridor walls.

As I glance at the crazed daubing in front of me, I realise I’ve already seen it: I’ve been here before. I’m walking in circles, rudderless in this claustrophobic blackness. Anyone with an overactive imagination would frighten the lives out of themselves down here.
